Father critically injured in Hulhumale' accident, family says there is no hope

A 62-year-old man who was injured in a dangerous accident in Hulhumale' on Monday is in critical condition and is being treated on a ventilator in the ICU of Tree Top Hospital.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Heenaamaa Hingun and Dhunburigas Magu in Hulhumale' at 7:44 am.

Speaking to Sun, the MP for North Hulhumale' constituency, Fathimath Zahiyya (Zaya), said the motorcycle involved in the accident was carrying a father and son. She said the father is currently on a ventilator in the ICU at Tree Top Hospital.

According to Zaya, the patient was a dialysis patient and suffered a brain hemorrhage in the accident. She said the family had been told there was no hope after the operation.

“He’s on a ventilator in the ICU. There’s no hope,” Zaya said, quoting the family.

Zaya said the accident happened while the father was on his way to drop off his 24-year-old son with disabilities at his office.

She said the elderly man is a Dhivehi teacher who has taught at MES, EPS, Aminiya School, Ghaazee School and Aliya School, and continues to teach Dhivehi to many children from home.

The two were first taken to Hulhumale' Hospital after the accident. Police did not disclose details of the injuries sustained.

In addition, two children died in separate dangerous incidents in Hulhumale' Phase II on Tuesday. Nine-year-old Zeeva Sinaan Ahmed succumbed to injuries from the accident near Vinares-7 on Saturday night. Later on Tuesday afternoon, a two-year-old girl died after falling from the twelfth floor of a STELCO tower in Phase II.
