Re-registration begins for NSPA assistance under two-year social security cycle

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has opened the opportunity to re-register for its social security programmes.

NSPA said the re-registration process is being carried out to strengthen social protection benefits and ensure they are delivered to eligible individuals in the most appropriate manner.

Under the General Social Security Regulations, eligible applicants receive monthly assistance for a period of two years.

In a post on NSPA’s X account, the agency stated that individuals currently registered for assistance as of November 2024, and who wish to continue receiving benefits, must submit their re-registration forms by November.

Those who do not submit the form within this period will still be able to apply for continued assistance, but will be required to submit a new application form and meet the eligibility criteria for awarding assistance, the agency said.

NSPA’s assistance programmes include financial assistance to single mothers or fathers living in poverty, financial assistance to children and their carers when the child is being cared for by someone other than their parents due to poverty, and food assistance for individuals living in poverty.

According to NSPA, more than MVR 17 million was disbursed last month to 3,313 single mothers or fathers, supporting 5,687 children under their care.

During the same period, 112 parents and 207 children newly registered for assistance.

In addition, MVR 181,000 was disbursed last month for assistance to 132 children and 98 parents who are being cared for by others without parental support, while MVR 26,360 was provided as food assistance to 659 individuals living in poverty.
