Prez: Sinamale' Bridge embodies trust, unity and shared vision between Maldives and China

The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, or Sinamale' Bridge, opened eight years ago, is more than an architectural development project, it stands as a powerful symbol of trust, unity and a shared forward-looking vision between the Maldives and China, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said on Sunday.

In a message shared on social media to mark the eighth anniversary of the bridge’s inauguration, the President said that under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping, relations between the Maldives and China will continue to strengthen.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to further enhancing the partnership between the two countries.

The Sinamale' Bridge, inaugurated on August 30, 2018, is one of the largest engineering and structural projects in the Maldives, connecting Male', Hulhule' and Hulhumale'. It remains the largest state-initiated infrastructure project completed to date, launched under former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration. The project was completed ahead of schedule, during the tenure of the then-Housing Minister, now President, Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The bridge marks its eighth anniversary today. The President visited the site this morning, accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua.

The project was carried out with assistance from the Government of China. Maintenance of the bridge has been undertaken free of charge by the Chinese company CCCC.
