Universal Foundation has awarded four medical scholarships for 2026, at an official ceremony held on August 13.
This year’s scholarships support higher education in specialised medical fields:
Aishath Zaha – Masters in Neurosurgery
Mueez Mohamed – MS in Pediatric Surgery
Mohamed Ifuhaam – MD Critical Care Medicine
Ismail Ejaz Ismail – Fellowship in Pediatric Respiratory Medicine
The Foundation said the scholarships are strategically aligned with training requirements identified by the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare, with the aim of addressing national skills shortages and strengthening the Maldives’ healthcare system.
Established in 2013, Universal Foundation continues to expand the philanthropic initiatives of Universal Enterprises. To date, over 60 doctors have completed specialist training through the Foundation in fields such as endocrinology, radiology, internal medicine, rheumatology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
In addition to medical scholarships, the Foundation has awarded more than 100 scholarships in other areas including information technology, accounting, business management, engineering, education and tourism.
As part of its community‑focused work, Universal Foundation continues to support major social initiatives, including the Maldives Red Crescent’s Partners for Humanity Programme and MOMS Aid’s Hiya Vehi 2026 Programme. The Foundation is also preparing to launch Little Smiles, a fundraising initiative in partnership with NGOs working in children’s welfare and development.
