Ministry announces 22 Al-Azhar University scholarships for Maldivian students

Scholarships from Egypt’s Al-Azhar University are now open. The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development on Monday announced 22 scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students to pursue higher education at Al-Azhar University, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious Islamic institutions.

According to the ministry, five scholarships are offered in law and Sharia, and 17 scholarships are offered in natural sciences, mathematics and statistics.

Applicants must be under 30 years of age by August 15, must be Maldivian citizens, and must be regularly repaying any loans taken through the Ministry of Higher Education.

Applications must be submitted through the ministry’s online portal. Required documents include:

  • Educational certificates stamped by MQA  

  • Academic transcripts  

  • A good conduct certificate from the applicant’s last school  

  • A medical report including HIV, AIDS and TB tests  

The ministry said online applications can be submitted before 1:30 pm on August 6. Hard copy submissions will be accepted until 11 am on August 12.
