Jameela nominated as Maldives’ top envoy to the UK

Jameela Ali Khalid has been nominated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for appointment as the new Maldivian high commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK).

The letter by President Muizzu nominating her for the role was read at the Parliament on Sunday morning, and subsequently sent to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.

The nomination comes after the country’s former top envoy to the UK, Iruthisham Adam, was appointed as foreign minister as part of a major cabinet reshuffle back in April.

Jameela currently serves as an ambassador-at-large at the Foreign Ministry. She previously served as Maldives’ first resident ambassador to the Germany from 2017 to 2019, as well as vice president of the Civil Service Commission.

She had also served for years in the education and media sectors prior to her diplomatic career.
