Maldivian student chosen for world’s largest girls’ space mission, Mission ShakthiSAT

Aminath Noya Sameeh has been selected to represent Maldives in the second phase of Mission ShakthiSAT, an international programme introducing girls to satellite development, to be held in Delhi this month.

The selection was announced by Women in Management (WIM), which said Maldives is proud to participate in this global initiative aimed at familiarising girls with satellite manufacturing and space science.

Mission ShakthiSAT, initiated by Space Kids India, is one of the world’s largest and most promising space events for girls. The programme brings together 12,000 girls from 108 countries, making it the largest girls’ space mission in the world. Under the project, participants will design, build and launch a satellite intended for lunar orbit. The main objective is to encourage young girls to pursue fields such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

According to WIM, Noya has a strong interest in science and computer technology. The organisation said her ambition is to pursue a career in computer science and contribute to new innovations that can bring positive change to society.

Noya is also passionate about public speaking. She has conducted online awareness campaigns and delivered talks on cyberbullying and cybersafety.

Speaking about her selection, Noya said the programme is “a golden opportunity to expand my dreams, meet young people from around the world and learn new things.” She added that the most important lesson she has gained from this journey is to build self-confidence and keep her expectations high.

Women in Management said it is proud to see Noya carry the Maldivian flag on such an international platform. The organisation expressed hope that her achievement will inspire many more girls in Maldives to pursue their dreams with confidence.
