The outstanding tax payments and other fees owed to the state has risen to nearly MVR 14.5 billion, including just under MVR 6 billion in unpaid resort rent.
Information released by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) shows outstanding dues to the state stood at MVR 14.47 billion as of March 31.
This includes MVR 8.17 billion in outstanding tax payments, including MVR 3.50 billion in General Goods and Services Tax (GGST), MVR 2.41 billion in Income Tax, and MVR 1.57 billion in Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST).

Meanwhile, the amount of non-tax dues owed to the state has risen to MVR 6.30 billion. This includes a staggering MVR 5.97 billion in outstanding resort rent, and MVR 331.46 million in other fees.
MIRA states it recovered MVR 2.09 in unpaid dues through enforcement measures. This includes MVR 1.29 billion recovered through dunning, MVR 617.54 million through dues clearance, MVR 151.80 million through reminder calls and emails, MVR 13.59 million through bank account freezing policy, and MVR 13.15 million through the name and shame policy.
