The People’s Majlis is scheduled to hold a sitting on Tuesday after nearly two weeks without any meetings.
The last sitting of the 20th Parliament was held on the 15th of this month. No committee meetings have been held since then either.
According to parliamentary regulations, sittings of the second session must be held from June until August 15. However, as with previous sessions, it now appears this session will also be extended.
Parliamentarians continue to face public criticism for committee meetings that conclude within five or ten minutes, committees being cancelled as soon as the clock strikes, irregular sittings, and the manner in which members debate bills.
Members of Parliament receive high salaries and extensive benefits funded by the state budget, yet there are persistent complaints that they do not work accordingly.
The public remains concerned about the irregularity of sittings and the lack of progress in both the previous and current terms.
