Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Kochi, India.
Aasandha has suspended the referral of new patients to Amrita Hospital in Cochin, India, one of the most popular overseas hospitals for Maldivians seeking treatment under the national health insurance scheme.
The change means new patients planning to travel to Amrita under Aasandha will face temporary delays until the referral process resumes.
According to Aasandha Company, the suspension applies only to new cases. The company stressed that Maldivian patients currently receiving treatment at Amrita will not be affected and will continue to receive full Aasandha coverage without interruption.
However, Aasandha said it is unable to confirm when referrals for new patients will restart.
Aasandha services have previously been temporarily halted at certain overseas hospitals due to administrative or contractual issues. Each year, the state spends around MVR 200 million on overseas medical treatment under the national insurance scheme.
