The number of students enrolled in higher secondary education has now increased to 48 percent, Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu said Sunday evening.

The minister was speaking at a special ceremony held to award high achievers in the higher secondary examinations. He noted that when President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took office in 2023, the number of students enrolling in higher secondary education was very low.

“With the changes in policy and the opportunities opened up, with God’s grace, that number has now been increased to 48 percent. This is a huge achievement. This will hopefully bring many benefits,” he said.

Dr Shafeeu said this marks a major step forward for the education sector, adding that the government aims to provide as many students as possible with the opportunity to study in higher secondary school and build an educated generation.

Students who scored the highest results in the higher secondary examinations were awarded prizes and certificates at the ceremony held Sunday evening.
