Man arrested for vandalism, theft of wires from electrical distribution boxes at Vinares tower

The Police have arrested an individual in connection with the alleged vandalism and theft of wires from electrical distribution boxes at one of the Vinares housing towers in Hulhumalé Phase II.

According to the Police, the vandalism of electrical distribution boxes located on the second floor of Vinares Tower 9 was reported to the authority on Sunday. Officers dispatched to the scene following the report found that the distribution boxes had been forcibly damaged, with earthing cables cut and copper components removed.

Nasrulla Shakeel Hussain, 38, Looking Glass, GDh. Thinadhoo, was arrested in connection with the case on Tuesday under a court warrant. When presented before the court, he was remanded in custody for 15 days.

The case is under further investigation by the Police.

Recent statistics released by police indicate a concerning rise in theft-related offences, with theft remaining the highest reported crime category so far this year, recording a total of 1,804 cases involving theft and burglary to date.
