Maldives records 1.07 million tourist arrivals as resorts dominate with 72 percent share

So far this year, 1,075,142 tourists have arrived in Maldives, with 72 percent choosing to stay in resorts.

At the end of the first six months of the year, 1,075,142 tourists visited Maldives, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism. Of these, 72 percent stayed at resorts.

The weekly tourism statistics report shows a five‑percent increase in tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year.

Resorts remained the most popular choice among visitors, recording 756,719 tourists, which accounts for 72 percent of all arrivals. Guesthouses were the second most visited category, attracting 244,755 tourists, or 23 percent of the total.

The average daily tourist arrivals now stand at 5,200, a drop from the 7,000‑plus recorded earlier this year.

China continues to lead the list of top source markets, followed by Russia and the UK. Italy ranks fourth, Germany fifth, and India remains in sixth place.

Chinese arrivals increased by 24,021 within the past month.

China secured the Maldivian tourism market leadership in 2023, overtaking India. The current gap between the two markets now stands at 105,274 tourists. Russia briefly overtook China earlier this year, but China has since regained and maintained its top position.

The government aims to attract 2.3 million tourists by the end of this year.
