The national airline Maldivian has announced that it will increase domestic flights to coincide with the upcoming school holidays.

According to this year’s academic calendar, first‑term tests will end on July 9, and school is scheduled to resume on August 2.

Maldivian said it will extend its domestic operations from July 10 to August 4, adding more than 320 flights during the period, an increase of 18,000 seats.

With the additional flights, the airline will operate more than 2,000 domestic flights during the holidays, amounting to roughly 110,000 seats, the company said.

In addition, the Airbus A320 will be deployed on select domestic routes to accommodate higher passenger demand. These include flights to Gan International Airport and Hanimaadhoo International Airport.

Due to increased demand during holiday periods, Maldivian typically boosts its domestic operations. More than 200 domestic flights were operated during the Eid holidays, exceeding the scheduled number.

Alongside flights, many people also travel to the atolls by launches and boats during the Eid holidays.

This year’s term holidays coincide with the western monsoon.
