President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the Maldivian people to set aside political differences and learn to prioritize national interests above all.

He made the appeal in an address on occasion of the Islamic New Year.

In his address, President Muizzu conveyed warm greetings and well wishes on occasion of the Islamic New Year to all Maldivian citizens and the larger Muslim Ummah.

President Muizzu noted that the Islamic New Year commemorates the migration of Prophet Mohamed and his followers from Mecca to Medina. He described the migration as the victory of light and justice over darkness, and united the Muslim Ummah.

In his address, President Muizzu said that the stability and prosperity of the Maldivian Ummah depends on unity and brotherly ties among Maldivian citizens.

He said that the Maldivian people need to emulate the Ansar and Muhajirin , and revive the spirit of friendship and compassion within the Maldivian community.

“The biggest lesson to be learnt today, on this holy occasion, is to set aside political and societal differences, and prioritize national interests above all else,” he said.

He said that a country can achieve progress only when its people clear their hearts and join hands to move towards a unified goal.

We must therefore strive to correct ourselves and our society, and migrate our hearts and minds towards the path of righteousness, he said.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting Islamic values and ensuring fairness and equity among all citizens.

President Muizzu described the Islamic New Year which began Tuesday as a new opportunity to develop the Maldivian economy and strengthen the country’s social fabric.

He added that the Maldivian people need to work hard and be innovative in order to overcome various global challenges.

President Muizzu appealed for the Maldivian people to renew their commitment, and work together to safeguard Islamic values and Maldivian culture, and take the country to “new heights”, both economically and societally.

He concluded his address with a reminder to pray for all Muslims suffering across the world, especially Palestinians, and a prayer for prosperity to the entire Muslim Ummah in the new year.
