The land handover agreement was signed by Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed on behalf of the Ministry, and Managing Director Brigadier General (Retired) Ali Zuhair on behalf of HDC.
The landmark mosque is planned to be developed in the area connecting Hulhumalé Phase II and Phase III.
Regarding the project, Minister Shaheem stated that the new mosque will be developed as a multi-purpose complex. In addition to the main prayer hall, the facility will include a Quran Museum as well as a range of other essential amenities.
Islamic Ministry has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rajhi Company to secure financing for the large-scale development.
The construction of the Maldives’ largest mosque in Hulhumalé is one of the key pledges announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in his presidential address. The government aims to commence physical works on the project in line with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ conversion to Islam. Accordingly, Islamic Ministry is working towards commencing construction in September this year.
