Authorities have suspended the license of the captain of a cargo boat accused of fleeing the scene after crashing into a speedboat on Monday, leaving two people seriously injured.
The accident took place near K. Galufalhu at around 06:19 am, when a cargo boat crashed into the speedboat ‘Tour Guard’, which was traveling with two crew members from Vilimale’ to Gili Lankanfushi Maldives.
The accident resulted in serious injuries to two people aboard ‘Tour Guard’; the boat’s 38-year-old captain, identified as a Maldivian male, and a 30-year-old crew member, identified as a Bangladeshi male.
A police spokesperson said on Tuesday that the authorities have suspended the license of the captain of the cargo boat.
The spokesperson added that the police are conducting both a civil and criminal investigation into the boat accident.
The two people injured in the accident were rushed to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The police, quoting hospital officials, said they showed signs of improvement.
