President’s representative on the Judicial Service Commission steps down from the post

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Vice-President Yazmeed Mohamed has resigned.

Yazmeed serves on the commission as the President’s representative.

He was elected to the post on October 23, 2025.

Yazmeed contested the 20th parliamentary elections for the Villingili constituency on the ruling PNC ticket. The seat was won by independent candidate Azim Abdul Aziz, who later joined the PNC.

Yazmeed was appointed as JSC vice-president after High Court Judge Mohamed Niyaz resigned from the position.

The current members of the JSC are:

  • Husnee Mubarik – Chairperson of the Commission; Member of Parliament appointed by Parliament  

  • Abdul Raheem Abdulla – Member of the Commission; Speaker of Parliament  

  • Ahmed Usham – Attorney General  

  • Hussain Shaheed – Judge elected from among Supreme Court judges (excluding the Chief Justice)  

  • Hassan Shafeeu – Judge elected by the High Court  

  • Farhad Rasheed – Judge elected by the lower courts  

  • Idhris Fauzy – Public representative appointed by Parliament  

  • Mohamed Mujthaz – Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission  

  • Ali Abdul Latheef – Member elected from among licensed lawyers
