The Maldives Zakat House has opened applications for a new round of higher‑education scholarships, offering opportunities for students to pursue Masters and PhD studies in Islamic fields both in the Maldives and abroad.
According to Zakat House, the scholarships cover a wide range of disciplines, including Islamic Sharia, Qur’anic sciences, Islamic education, Islamic research and publishing, Islamic journalism, faith studies, fiqh and usul‑fiqh, as well as Islamic leadership and management.
Students selected for local study will have the opportunity to enrol at Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), Maldives National University (MNU), Villa College, Avid College and Zikra College. Overseas placements are available at Al‑Azhar University, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).
Zakat House said a total of 30 scholarships will be awarded, 10 for local study and 20 for overseas study.

In addition, the institution has introduced two special schemes:
five stipend opportunities for Maldivian students currently studying in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and
five special scholarships dedicated to training women doctors in women’s health‑related fields.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, academically eligible for their chosen programme, and enrolled in a full‑time course accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA). Students receiving financial assistance from any other government institution are not eligible.
Zakat House said it may also consider applications in other fields, provided the area of study is important for the development of the Maldivian Islamic community.
Applicants are required to submit all necessary documents, after which applications will be evaluated by the committee responsible for administering higher‑education assistance from the Zakat Fund.
The deadline for applications is July 16 at 2:00 p.m.
Applications must be submitted via email to [email protected].
