Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim has been kicked out of a WhatsApp group for parliamentarians from the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).

The move on Wednesday morning comes after the Dhiggaru constituency representatives was pulled on April 21 from the Public Accounts Committee and the Security Services Committee (241 Committee) – the most powerful committees of the legislative assembly.

The Parliament’s official website shows Nazim was replaced in the key committees by other PNC lawmakers. However, the changes were not announced at the Parliament as is standard procedure, and the ruling party offered no explanation for the decision.

Sun has learnt that Nazim was kicked out of the WhatsApp group for PNC’s parliamentary group members at around 06:00 am Wednesday. The group in question in an official one run by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in his capacity as president of the PNC, and has himself and the ruling party’s parliamentarians.

The reason why Nazim was removed from the group was not immediately clear.

The Parliament’s official website shows Nazim was replaced in the Public Accounts Committee by Central Machangolhi MP Ahmed Zameer, and in the Security Services Committee by North Fuvahmulah MP Hamad Abdulla.

But he does not appear to have been removed from the State-Owned Enterprises Committee.

Nazim did not respond to requests seeking a comment regarding why he was pulled from the committees or why the changes weren’t announced at the Parliament, despite repeated messages and phone calls.

Ibrahim Falah, the leader of PNC’s parliamentary group, has also remained silent.

Nazim had been highly active in the two committees from which he was pulled, leading key inquiries, including the one into the corruption allegations against the Police Cooperative Society (POLCO).

Changes to committee compositions by parties are often because of political reasons.

One such change was when Central Hithadhoo MP Ahmed Azaan Marzooq was pulled from the Public Accounts Committee and the Security Services Committee in March 2025 after major differences in opinion with the government saw him violate three-line whips issued by the PNC’s parliamentary group. He was appointed back to the committees five months later, in August 2025.
