The government aims to further strengthen the healthcare sector in the Maldives by enhancing the skills and professional capabilities of nursing personnel. In pursuit of this objective, the administration has planned a range of initiatives and opportunities to support the career development and advancement of nurses. Notably, the national budget approved for this year also places considerable emphasis on the healthcare sector.
International Nurses Day has been observed annually on May 12 since January 1974, commemorating the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, widely regarded as the founder of modern nursing. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has officially marked the occasion since 1965.
