A fire broke out on Saturday, on a boat off K. Gulhifalhu.
The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) states that the fire on board ‘Oxon Carrier 2’ was reported to the Fire and Rescue Service at around 01:22 pm.
Firefighters from the Hulhumale’ Fire Station were immediately deployed to respond to the fire.
According to the MNDF, the fire originated from the engine room of the boat.
Firefighters managed to put it out at around 02:45 pm.
MNDF said that there were five people on the boat when the fire broke out, all of whom safely moved to another boat.
While the fire did not result in any injuries, it caused significant damage to the engine room.
The exact cause of the fire is unclear at this point.
