The rules were amended on Sunday to allow people to apply for land and flats even if they have not been registered as a Male' City citizen for a full year.
Under the government’s Housing for All policy, eligibility previously required at least one year of registered residency in Male' to apply for land and flats.
However, the Housing Ministry announced on Sunday that individuals who have registered in Male' for less than a year may also apply.
Those applying under the category for people who have lived in Male' for 15 years will still be required to meet that condition. According to the ministry, applicants must submit documents proving 15 years of residence in Male' and the date they first registered their residency.

The application window for land and flats remains open until the end of this month. The government continues to revise the eligibility requirements for housing.
On the 12th of last month, Housing Minister Dr. Abdullah Muthalib said the conditions for applying for flats were being revised. Some of the changes since applications opened in January include amendments to the “Binveriyaa” special scheme, including the rule concerning those who were unable to apply for land under the scheme during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
Those who scored 75 points under the MDP government’s housing scheme were previously set to receive two‑bedroom flats. However, the rule has since been changed, and the flats will now be allocated to the poorest applicants.
Other changes have also been made.
The government has decided to allocate 7,900 flats and 15,000 plots of land under its Housing for All policy. Of the 7,900 flats, 4,000 will be allocated to Male' City residents, 1,500 to non‑residents, and 2,400 to special categories.
