Two arrested from Vaadhoo for alleged possession of drugs

Maldives Police Service has arrested two individuals from GDh. Vaadhoo on suspicion of drug possession and use.

The suspects have been identified as Mohamed Ashraf, 30, Sandharosege, GDh. Gadhdhoo, and Aminath Shaya Shujau, 18, Hivvaru, GA. Maamendhoo.

According to the Police, the suspects were arrested on April 23 in the harbor area of Vaadhoo. A subsequent search led to the discovery of substances believed to be drugs in their possession. The provisional weight of the seized drugs have been placed at 3.28 grams.

Following presentation before the court, Ashraf was remanded in custody for 30 days. Meanwhile, Shaya was remanded in custody for 60 days.

The Police states the case is under further investigation.

The Police are conducting special operations at various islands as part of broader efforts to address drug abuse in society.
