A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being found guilty of committing sexual acts with a male who has special needs.
The defendant has been identified as Abdulla Waheed Moosa, 58, of Nava, Funaadu, Fuvahmulah City. He was prosecuted under Special Provisions Act to Deal with Child Sex Abuse Offenders
Following a thorough review of the evidence presented and the legal arguments submitted, the court delivered its verdict on Sunday, finding Abdulla Waheed Moosa guilty of the charges, sentencing him to 18 years in prison
However, after deducting the period of one year, seven months, and nine days that Abdulla Waheed Moosa has already spent in custody during the trial under Article 186 of the Criminal Procedure Act, he will be required to serve 16 years, four months, and 21 days in prison.
The Maldives Police Service has reiterated its commitment to the protection of persons with special needs from such heinous crimes, stating that they will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of vulnerable individuals.
