For the first time in Maldives, a direct flight has been scheduled to depart from Addu City to Saudi Arabia for Umrah pilgrims.

Traditionally, all Umrah pilgrims from the Maldives have departed via the country’s primary gateway, Velana International Airport (VIA).

However, in a first, arrangements have been made for a direct flight from Gan International Airport (GIA) in Addu to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to facilitate direct travel for Umrah pilgrims.

‘The Travelers,’ a travel agency for Umrah pilgrims, has arranged the direct flight in collaboration with the national airline, Maldivian. The agency emphasized that this direct route will substantially reduce travel time.

According to the agency, flight bookings will open soon. The national airline will deploy a Maldivian wide-body Airbus A330 for the operation, with a seating capacity of 264 passengers.
