Man found unresponsive inside Male' Custodial cell and pronounced dead at IGMH

A 41‑year‑old man died while in police custody in Male' on Wednesday, according to the Maldives Police Service.

Police said the man was found unresponsive inside a cell at the Male' Custodial and was taken to IGMH early Wednesday evening. He was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Naushad, 41, of Reyalivage/Male' City.

Police said the incident has been reported to both the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC), as required in custodial‑death cases.

Authorities said an investigation is underway.
