DCP (Retd) Mohamed Rishwan has resigned as Managing Director and Board Member of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed on Monday that it has accepted his resignation from both posts.

The Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) had earlier forwarded a case involving Rishwan to the duty prosecution. The Prosecutor General’s Office told Sun that the case relates to alleged corruption in the construction of the Dharumavantha Hospital building during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.

Rishwan previously served as Deputy CEO of IGMH and spent many years in the military and police. He retired from the police in 2012 after serving as Deputy Commissioner.

His resignation comes on a day when several senior officials were removed from government positions. They include Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah. In addition, Maldives’ Ambassador to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), son of PNC MP for Maafannu Central Asma Rasheed, and her sister, Maldives’ Permanent Representative to Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed, were also dismissed.

The wave of changes follows the ruling PNC’s heavy defeat in Saturday’s elections. A majority of voters rejected the government’s proposal to merge the two main elections, and the administration also lost key council seats to the opposition MDP.

Three major votes held that day were widely viewed as a test of public support for the government, which had invested heavily in its campaign.
