The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has denied claims circulating on social media that parking slots in Hulhumale' are being leased to select individuals outside official procedures.

In a statement issued Thursday, the corporation said it had never rented out parking spaces outside the announced rules, and described the allegations as deliberate attempts to mislead the public. HDC said it “strongly condemns” the spread of false information and warned that it will take action with the relevant authorities if such claims continue.

HDC noted that it had publicly announced the opportunity to lease parking slots last year, after which many people applied. The list of eligible applicants was published following verification, the corporation said, adding that the entire process was conducted transparently.

The parking zones were opened for applications on 27 September last year. The application window has since closed, and the slots are being leased for one year at a monthly rate of MVR 2,000.
