The government has extended the deadline for the repatriation and legalization of irregular immigrants until the second day of next month.

The Home Ministry announced the extension in a notice published in the Government Gazette on Wednesday. According to the announcement, the deadline for the mass‑legalization program conducted under Operation Kurangi has now been pushed to May 2.

The ministry said the extension was granted following requests from many employers.

The notice stressed that this will be the final opportunity for irregular immigrants to regularize their status, adding that no further extensions will be granted.

For more information, the ministry advised contacting its hotline at 1485 or emailing [email protected].

The government has been working to regularize irregular immigrants working in the Maldives, while also increasing enforcement measures against those remaining undocumented. The administration aims to resolve the irregular migration issue within three years.

The current foreign worker legalization program began on December 18 last year.
