The financing agreement for the Hulhumale' Grand Mosque project has been signed, the Islamic Ministry confirmed on Tuesday evening.
Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed told the media that the agreement was signed in Medina, describing it as a significant step forward for the project. The financing arrangement has been finalised with Al‑Rajhi Company, according to the ministry.
The new mosque is being developed to mark the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ conversion to Islam, a milestone the government has pledged to commemorate with major religious infrastructure projects.

The existing Hulhumale' Grand Mosque, built in 2006, can accommodate more than 1,800 worshippers. The new project aims to expand capacity and enhance facilities to meet the needs of the growing Hulhumale' population.
The Islamic Ministry said the agreement with Al‑Rajhi Company is part of a broader strategic partnership to support major religious development initiatives in the Maldives.
