Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the President of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and the parliamentary representative for the Dh. Meedhoo constituency, on Sunday emphasized that the full participation of women across all branches of governance, including the executive, legislature, and judiciary, is of paramount importance.
In a message addressed to the nation on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Siyam conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to all women and girls of the Maldives, especially the female members of the MDA.
Siyam noted that the day serves as an important opportunity for the entire community to come together to recognize and appreciate the vital role and significant contributions of women in the nation’s development. He further observed that although the Maldives has made considerable progress in advancing gender equality, additional efforts are still required to achieve further improvements in this area.
Additionally, Siyam stressed the importance of strengthening initiatives aimed at eliminating gender discrimination and addressing all forms of violence against women.
He further highlighted that increasing women’s participation in politics is among the most effective ways to promote gender equality and combat violence against women. Acknowledging that women face various challenges within the political sphere, Siyam reiterated that their meaningful representation across the executive, legislative, and judicial branches remains essential.
Siyam also expressed his hope that greater opportunities will continue to be created for Maldivian women, ensuring a prosperous future for them.
“My hope is to see Maldives become a nation that is peaceful, safe and prosperous for all its citizens, especially the future generations,” he said.
Siyam concluded his message with a prayer for the continued progress and prosperity of Maldivian society through the equal participation of both men and women.
