Villimale' Constituency Councilor Nahula Ali has filed a police complaint alleging that she received a death threat from a relative of Mayor Adam Azim, following her efforts to investigate the irregular allocation of council land to companies linked to the mayor’s family.
According to Nahula, the dispute centers on a plot at Alimas Carnival, which was previously leased to CIM Pvt Ltd under an agreement valid until 2027. She claims the same land was later allocated to Nazrash Company Pvt Ltd and Vasmeeru Holdings Pvt Ltd, both reportedly owned by Mayor Azim’s elder brother, Rasheed.
Nahula said she submitted the issue to the council for discussion, but it was excluded from the agenda for two consecutive weeks. She expressed concern that the mayor was selectively deciding which items to include in council meetings.
Among the items she submitted for Wednesday’s session were:
The council’s failure to renew parking space agreements in Male'.
A 10-day eviction notice issued to tenants on the second floor of the wet fish market, despite unresolved rent and agreement issues.
Delays in handing over plots listed in the council’s November 2025 land register.
The Alimas Carnival land case involving Nazrash Company Pvt Ltd and Vasmeeru Holdings Pvt Ltd, despite CIM Pvt Ltd’s active lease.
Nahula said the land agreement was cancelled without council discussion, even though the council’s own land register shows the 3,330 sq ft plot was allocated.
In her police complaint, Nahula alleges that Mohamed Visham, Managing Director of Nazrash Company Pvt Ltd and Vasmeeru Holdings Pvt Ltd, RCC shareholder, and son of Rasheed, called her father and threatened her life.
“The phrase used in the death threat was: ‘Does Nahula not want to live in the world? If she wants to live in this world, tell her not to mess with my father.’ My father Ali Waheed received the call at 13:23 today. They have also called my mother several times,” Nahula said.
She has requested police to treat the matter seriously, citing the threat and Visham’s alleged involvement.
