The current administration’s second Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has decided to retire from the force.
Naveen, who was appointed CP on June 10, 2025, confirmed to Sun his decision to retire.
Sun has learned that Naveen formally notified senior officials of the Maldives Police Service about his retirement.
Naveen was appointed to the post following the resignation of his processor, Ibrahim Shujau on April 26th, who subsequently went onto retire.
He was selected for the post over Deputy Commissioner Faruhad Fikury and Assistance Commissioner of Police, South Police Commander Ahmed Shameem, who applied for the post when candidacy opened in May.
Notably, the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee had decided to recommend the suspension of several senior police officers including Naveen in November last year citing they had violated professional standards of the Maldives Police Service.
However, the suspension was never enforced.
Naveen, who has served in Maldives Police Service for over 30 years, has obtained higher education from Australia’s University of Southern Queensland and Malaysia’s Stamford College.
