President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday, returned to Maldives after concluding an official visit to Germany, undertaken at the invitation of his German counterpart, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The President traveled to Germany on Monday on a five-day official visit.
During the visit, President Muizzu and President Steinmeier held official bilateral talks where both leaders agreed to maintain the momentum of the dialogue established during the visit. Discussions centered on strengthening collaboration in areas of shared interest through increased high-level engagements, with the aim of benefiting both nations.
The President also attended the Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable, where German firms were introduced to investment prospects in the Maldives. In his address, the President highlighted advancements in economic reforms and encouraged German enterprises to explore new opportunities as the Maldives works to broaden and diversify its economy. The session concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Visit Maldives and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH to collaborate on destination promotion and marketing initiatives.
In addition to this, the President also delivered a keynote speech at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, sharing the Maldives’ experiences in adapting to climate change. He also addressed Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), speaking on the strategic importance of the ocean in foreign policy.
The visit coincided with the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. An official reception was organized to commemorate the milestone, attended by the Maldivian delegation, senior representatives of the German government, members of the diplomatic community in Berlin, and Maldivians residing in Germany.
The President separately met Maldivians residing in Germany, engaging with them in discussions about their experiences and concerns.
