Business Center Corporation (BCC) has officially launched its “Authentic Maldives” brand store on Alibaba.com, one of the world’s largest e-commerce platforms.

The move enables more than 400 Maldivian vendors to sell their products internationally, expanding access to global markets and promoting Maldivian-made goods abroad.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed announced the launch on his official social media accounts, calling it “an important step to create opportunities for Maldivian businesses, empower entrepreneurs, and promote Maldivian products abroad.”

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the creative economy and digital trade. It also reflects the China–Maldives Free Trade Arrangement, which facilitates access to Alibaba’s global reach.

Minister Saeed had earlier pledged to support Maldivian entrepreneurs in entering Alibaba’s marketplace. On September 10, he announced plans to host a webinar for online sellers and those interested in cross-border e-commerce.

According to BCC, over 700 participants joined the webinar, which introduced the Alibaba ecosystem and provided practical guidance for setting up seller accounts.

The Economic Ministry’s inventory shows more than 400 online manufacturers in Maldives, including producers of skincare and suntan products tailored to the local climate, developed with input from an Australian lab.

President Muizzu also highlighted the initiative during a consultation with entrepreneurs, noting that it aligns with his administration’s commitment to economic diversification, international partnerships, and digital infrastructure development.

In addition to Alibaba, platforms like Temu and Shein are commonly used by Maldivian consumers, though they do not currently host local sellers.
