The Maldives Police Service has towed 252 vehicles from the streets of Hulhumale' in the past 24 hours as part of a targeted operation to clear abandoned and illegally parked vehicles.

In a social media post accompanied by photos, police said the vehicles were broken, unused for days, and included unregistered vehicles as well as those registered to zones other than Zone A.

The operation is part of a broader effort to reclaim public spaces and ensure road safety. Police said towing will continue across streets and open areas of Hulhumale', focusing on illegally parked vehicles, old vehicles, and those violating registration rules.

Authorities have noted that the number of vehicles imported into the country has exceeded the city’s capacity. Just days earlier, police had towed 20 vehicles from Hulhumale' on Wednesday and Thursday, citing similar violations.

The police have warned that owners will bear responsibility for retrieving their vehicles and any damage incurred during towing.
