A fire broke out in a house in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll on Tuesday afternoon, leaving eight residents temporarily displaced.

Velidhoo Council President Athif Hussain told Sun that the incident occurred between 13:00 and 13:30 hours. The house, which accommodates eight people including a child, was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The blaze has since been extinguished. Preliminary observations suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.

The affected family has been temporarily relocated to a relative’s home. A police forensic team is investigating the incident.

This marks the second fire incident reported on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, a man sustained burns to his arm when a boat caught fire off the coast of Hulhumale'.
