President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ibrahim Afeef and Shaufa Ibrahim to the Tax Appeal Tribunal.
Afeef joins as a general member, while Shaufa has been appointed as the tribunal’s representative from the legal sector.
The appointments were approved by Parliament on October 8, with Afeef receiving unanimous support from 53 members.
The President had submitted seven nominees for the tribunal. Among them was former Supreme Court Justice Mahaz Ali Zaheer, who received the highest score, 97 percent, from the evaluation committee. However, when the matter was put to a vote, 41 of the 46 members present rejected Mahaz’s appointment.
According to the parliament's committee, five of the seven candidates scored above the 75 percent threshold required for consideration.
