Worker injured in Thilafushi truck accident moved to IGMH ward

An expatriate worker who sustained serious injuries after getting runover by a truck in K. Thilafushi on Thursday is now being treated in a ward, according to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The accident at the industrial island of Thilafushi was reported to police at around 02:15 pm Thursday. The man injured in the accident, who the police identified as a Sri Lankan man, was working near an excavator when he got hit by a truck. He fell down from the impact, and got runover by the truck.

The police said he sustained serious injuries in the accident, and was taken to the IGMH in Male’ City for emergency treatment.

A spokesperson from IGMH told Sun on Friday that the 53-year-old man is currently being treated at one of the wards.

However, the spokesperson declined to comment on his condition or the extent of his injuries.

Meanwhile, the truck driver, 28-year-old Indian national Vignesh Annadurai, was taken to police custody following the accident.

The police also towed the truck involved in the accident.
