President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday reappointed Mohamed Nasih and appointed two new members to the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The commission’s incumbent president Nasih, along with former Supreme Court secretary-general Dr. Hussain Faiz, and Dr. Dheeba Moosa, the spouse of Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim, were appointed to the CSC in a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday morning.

Their oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain.

Nasih, Hussain and Dheeba received parliamentary approval for their appointment to the CSC on August 27. Nasih received approval for a second term at the CSC with a majority vote of 52-4, while Hussain received a unanimous vote of 54, and Dheeba received a unanimous vote of 60.

They were nominated to replace Nasih, Mohamed Farsath and Fathimath Shareef, whose terms expired on September 3.

Nasih has a Master's Degree in Engineering from the University of Liverpool in UK. He has over 28 years of experience in telecommunications and broadcasting, having served as secretary general and director general of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, as well as director general of the Communications Authority of Maldives.

However, his nomination for a second term at CSC had come as a surprise, as he was the target of an impeachment attempt by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) back in November 2024. The Independent Institutions Committee, which investigated him over an allegation of attempting to gain undue personal benefits, had voted in favor of a no-confidence motion against him.

However, the motion against Nasih failed to pass the floor vote, as parliamentarians voted 64-12 against his dismissal.
