The court has released five people arrested during last night’s protests on condition that are not to be seen within groups for a period of two months. The court has also extended the detention period for four other people arrested.
A total of nine people were arrested during last night’s protests, part of a series of continuing protests staged by Maldivian Democratic Party saying that it is for the protection former president Mohamed Nasheed. In addition to the 9 people, a minor was also arrested last night who was released later last night.
Sun has come to know that the detention period for two of the people arrested were extended for 10 days, while the detention period for the other two was extended for 15 days.
Police have confirmed that the detention period for some people arrested last night was indeed extended by the court. They however did not reveal details.
Protesters had thrown glass bottles at police last night, who were stationed at a barricade near in the Sosun Magu near Majeediyya School.
