Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s Managing Director Mohamed Mauroof Jameel has decided to retire just six months after he was appointed to the post.
Mauroof, who has served as the construction minister during former president Abdulla Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s administration, had played a crucial role when HDC was first incepted.
He was appointed the company’s Managing Director on December 22nd.
Mauroof, who many viewed as a truthful and capable individual to lead the company, was appointed to the post following the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed who previously held the post at the face of serious corruption allegations.
Sun has learned that Mauroof has informed his decision to retire to several senior HDC officials.
Mauroof did not respond to calls or messages seeking a comment on the matter.
The government has also yet to comment on the matter.
Mauroof is an architect and independent researcher on the architectural heritage of the Maldives. He had played a crucial role when the reclamation and development of Hulhumale’ first began.
