Zakat House disburses MVR 1.52 mil on cancer patients

The Maldives Zakat House has spent a total of MVR 1.52 million during the first fourt months of 2025 on cancer patients, it said.

The authority released its most recent statistics dated from January until April's end, which provided a detailed breakdown of the extended aid to people. As per statistics, Zakat House extended financial support to a total of 370 individuals during the first four months.

Zakat House provided financial support the most towards other ailments, and second most for cancer patients, at MVR 2.95 million and MVR 1.52 million respectively. The authority disbursed a total of MVR 814,812.38 to patients dealing with neurological diseases - making this category the third most spent on.

Other areas of support include:

• Pulmonary diseases: MVR 112,157
• Cardiovascular diseases: MVR 169,614.74
• Transplants: MVR 481,822
• Renal diseases: MVR 258,902.5

The fund also extends financial support towards necessities and helping those with critical financial predicaments, such as the poor. Such support provided from January to April include:

• January: MVR 20,481.00
• February: MVR 20,480.03
• March: MVR 3,397.94
• April: MVR 42,500.00

Besides this, the fund also provides financial support to conduct various religious awareness activities, this included:

• Religious awareness programs: MVR 1.16 million
• Traning courses: MVR 1000
• Book translation: MVR 578,460.00
