55 people arrested during last night

Police have said that they have arrested 55 people during last night’s protests, including one minor and four women. They are all currently under police custody.

The editor of a local newspaper Mv Times Asadulla Mohamed has said that one their reporters was also arrested during last night’s protests. Asadulla said that the reporter had informed the police that he lost his press identification during the chaos of the protest and said that he was arrested regardless of them being notified. Asadulla said that he tried to seek a meeting with the Police Media Official Hassan Haneef but said that his efforts were futile.

A tweet made by the police last night stated that they had not arrested any member of the press during last night’s protests.

Police Media Official Hassan Haneef said that did receive complaints that a reporter belonging to the newspaper Mv Times was arrested last night, but said that the person did not have any identification indicating that he was a member of the press, and that they had not received any report that he had lost his identification.

Police have said that the person was arrested last night because his actions were in line with the actions of the protesters.
