45-year-old inmate serving life sentence dies at Male’ hospital

An inmate at the Maafushi Prison who was serving a life sentence following a drug conviction has died in a hospital in Male’.

Maldives Correctional Service identified the deceased as Moosa Hassan, 45, Hiyfaseyhage, N. Maafaru.

According to Correctional Service, Moosa died from a cardiac arrest on early Thursday at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where he has been admitted to since he was medically evacuated there back in April.

Correctional Service said that Moosa had been serving a 25-year prison sentence in a drug case.

Correctional Service said that Moosa’s death was immediately notified to his family, Inspector of Correctional Service, Maldives Police Service, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and National Integrity Commission.
