Shark attack victim’s condition stabilizes

The man who was attacked by a shark while he was fishing near Kulhudhuffushi City is stabilizing according to his family.

The man, a 30-year-old local of the northern city, was attacked last Saturday while he was in the sea to catch fish.

While speaking with Sun Online, the victim’s brother Azim Abdul Wahhab confirmed he is being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital’s (IGMH) general ward, and added his condition was now stable.

“His condition is stable now, but is in pain. We will get to know when he would be discharged after his braces are changed this Thursday,” Azim said.

The victim sustained serious injury on his right shoulder, while a media official from Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital earlier said his shoulder had been dislocated when he arrived at the hospital.

The media official further added the victim had been referred to Dr. Mohamed Waheed, the country’s only plastic surgeon. Azim, confirmed the surgery has not been performed yet.

Maldives Police Service confirmed the incident was brought to their attention and noted it was looking into the case.
