Maldives has donated essential food supplies worth MVR 500,000 to Palestinians in Gaza that are struggling with acute hunger as food supplies dwindle amid Israel’s war and blockade of aid to the enclave.
Islamic Ministry, via a post on X on Thursday, said essential food supplies were donated to Gaza through funds collected by Maldives Zakat House at Fitr Zakat this year. In this regard, the Ministry detailed that the supplies were distributed to Palestinians in Gaza in collaboration with Isra Association, a local humanitarian mission supporting Palestine.
Prior to this, the funds from Zakat Fund has been utilized to donate drinking water to Palestinians.

According to Islamic Ministry, MVR 13.2 million was collected as Fitr Zakat this year, setting a record for the highest Zakat payments ever collected.
Fitr Zakat was n distributed at a rate of MVR 4,500 per person for the 2,765 people registered on the poverty list as low-income individuals. It was also decided that MVR 500,000 will be donated to fund food supplies for Palestinian children in Gaza who are in dire need of basic necessities amid Israel's war and blockade of aid to the enclave.
More than 50,600 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's military onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children.
