Raajje TV, a popular local channel, especially known for its opposing stance to the People’s National Congress (PNC)-led government, has issued a formal apology over the commentary made in one of its programs aired on Monday evening.

The popular local channel issued its apology some time on Tuesday evening, March 25th.

In a discussion program on the channel, two guest speakers had made deriding remarks aimed at the Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The remarks had been derogatory towards autism as well.

Following significant public criticism, the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) had released a statement about the matter.

One of the speakers in the RajjeTV program ‘Kaalaa Baisaa’, had insinuated President Muizzu was autistic and had traits of down syndrome.

RaajjeTV since then had issued a formal apology, stating it did not intend for the comments made on the program to harm the sentiments of autistic individuals.
