A company that illegally manufactured cigarettes at a house named H. Hulhugali has been granted approval to destroy the items while their business permit has been revoked.
Police raided the house under a court order on January 30th based on the tip received informing production of cigarettes at the location. The raid saw the discovery and seizure of 103 cardboard boxes, which included cigarettes and tobacco.
The company has been identified as Radius Private Limited.
Speaking with Sun, a Police Spokesperson said the Economic Ministry has revoked the business permit issued to the company while the Health Ministry has granted approval to the Police to destroy the cigarettes seized by the authority.
The hike in duty imposed on cigarettes has significantly increased the price of cigarettes.
Notably, a case involving the sale of illegally imported cigarettes had recently come to light. The cigarettes were sold without warning labels.
